Award-winning historian Amrita Chakrabarti Myers joins us on Thursday, January 29 at 5:30pm for a talk about The Vice President’s Wife: The Untold Story of Julia Chinn, the enslaved wife of Richard Mentor Johnson, Martin Van Buren’s vice president. In conversation with Professor Zanice Bond of Tuskegee University Myers will discuss her impressive biography, beautifully written, in which she explores the intersection of race, gender, power, and property in eighteenth-century America. Critics are calling the book an important work of historical recovery.
