DESCRIPTION:This year’s Witness Poetry Prize program will begin at 6 p.m. on October 3 at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. The Witness Prize honors poet Jake Adam York and is given annually to an outstanding poem of witness. This year’s judge and featured speaker is Victoria Chang\, the Bourne Chair in Poetry at Georgia Tech. The prize winner is Erica Jing\, who will also read from her work. \n\nThe Witness Prize contest and reading originated in 2014 in connection with the Third Thursday Poetry Series. \n\n\nThis year’s program is sponsored by Southern Humanities Review and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University. DESCRIPTION:The annual Auburn Witness Poetry Prize honoring Jake Adam York will be open May 1 – June 1. Submit up to 3 poems for this year’s judge\, Joy Harjo! Entry fee of $15. Winner receives $1\,000 and a chance to read at an event in Auburn\, AL. \nPresented in October by the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art at Auburn University\, the Auburn Witness Poetry Prize event features the recipient and judge in conversation at the museum and includes a workshop. The recipient also receives travel expenses to attend the event. \nJoy Harjo is an internationally renowned performer and writer of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. She served three terms as the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States from 2019-2022 and is winner of Yale’s 2023 Bollingen Prize for American Poetry.
