June 27th\, 2023\, 5pm (PST) \nThree Fellowship Awards for LGBTQIA+ Writers & Filmmakers \nYou can apply via the application on our website: \nWriters Boot Camp Fellowship Application. \nWriters Boot Camp continues our support of fresh voices and diverse artists this month by providing three $2500 full scholarships to writers in the Saturday\, July 8th 10-Week Basic Training. \nIn celebration of Pride this month’s theme is LGBTQIA+ Contributions. \nCandidates must self-identify as LGBTQIA+ and submit a project focusing on at least one Main Character presenting within that background and involved in a story with related subject matter. \nWhether writing about personal challenges\, about a relationship or family circumstance\, an historical retrospective or modern take on past events\, a leadership or political issues piece\, or a simply entertaining and engaging project–all formats and genres of TV\, movies\, books\, novels\, and non-fiction can be supported and are welcome. \nWhile in many cases\, audiences can benefit from authentic representation of any kind\, especially in the realm of LGBTQIA+ inclusion\, we encourage all writers to consider how a project idea offers a fresh take and contribution to the “ongoing conversation” to rise above cliche or a more generic approach. Of course\, that’s the key to any idea in the entertainment industry\, which is an idea business. \nOur tools are agnostic in that there is no imposition of bias\, and Writers Boot Camp’s diversity track record through the years is unparalleled. While it can be very natural to lose objectivity about one’s work from the outset and during various stages of rewriting\, Writers Boot Camp provides tools for artist empowerment and methods of breaking down the work into more manageable exercises and stages\, especially during rewriting. \nMany respectable and respected colleagues run companies offering script evaluation services\, though we don’t abide or encourage the need for writers to pay extra for script evaluation. Our Professional Membership offers the free\, ongoing benefit of script evaluation\, along with a constructively directed reinforcement of a method to gradually wean writers off that dependency. \nOf course\, an earnest and capable practitioner may offer insight that can be justified for the few hundred bucks. But the general lack of experience and education by new writers can render the most insightful commentary superfluous to a writer’s current capacity to integrate notes\, let alone at the right stage of the writing and rewriting process. More profoundly\, a writer is the presumed expert of their material\, so it’s not great form. \nThe insight of a veteran executive or producer who’s willing to take time to be supportive with insight about commercial viability and creative notes can be perceived as a golden ticket. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to submit your writing for a chance to be published in Fence\, one of North America’s most prestigious literary magazines\, and be awarded a full scholarship to attend the December 2023 International Literary Seminars program in Kenya. The ILS program is a unique and intensive series of literary workshops\, career consultations\, and cultural offerings in Nairobi and Lamu\, Kenya. All entries will be considered for publication in Fence or Fence Digital\, and a chance to receive editorial feedback. \nThe first-prize winner will have their winning work published in Fence and will be awarded a full scholarship\, including tuition\, accommodations\, and an airfare stipend\, to attend the December 2023 International Literary Seminars program in Kenya. \nThe second-prize winner will have their work published in Fence\, and be offered a full tuition fee waiver to attend the December 2023 International Literary Seminars program in Kenya. \nThe third-prize winner will be offered 50% off the tuition fee.
