SUMMARY:Tuesday\, June 24 at 5:30pm at The NewSouth Bookstore: Barbara McQuade with Attack from Within
DESCRIPTION:This talk should interest everyone. Seriously. Join us to listen to and learn from MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade\, author of Attack from Within: How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America\, now in paperback. The book is an urgent\, comprehensive explanation of the ways disinformation is impacting democracy\, and practical solutions that can be pursued to strengthen the public\, media\, and truth-based politics. In the book\, McQuade breaks down the ways disinformation has become a tool to drive voters to extremes\, disempower our legal structures\, and consolidate power in the hands of the few. Eric Holder calls McQuade “a great public servant and one of the most acute observers of our time.” We are excited to host Barbara McQuade at The NewSouth Bookstore on Tuesday\, June 24 at 5:30pm.

SUMMARY:Thursday\, August 7 at 5:30pm at The NewSouth Bookstore: Salaam Green on "The Other Revival: Poems & Reckonings"
DESCRIPTION:We are fortunate to welcome Salaam Green to The NewSouth Bookstore. Her new book\, The Other Revival: Poems & Reckonings\, is an extraordinary collection of poems — deeply personal and historically rooted — which revolve around a house built in Harpersville\, Alabama in 1841. Thirty-nine people enslaved by Samuel Wallace\, owner of the property\, constructed the house and worked the land. Green interviewed descendants of those enslaved people and descendants of their slave owners and takes us on a journey in verse\, offering a glimpse into generational memory and sparking the possibility of new racial healing. Meet Salaam Green\, in conversation with Jacqueline Allen Trimble\, on Thursday\, August 7 at 5:30pm. It’ll be a very special evening\, indeed.
